14 years after Florida Hospital Celebration Health opened and influenced healthcare design nationwide with its emphasis on hospitality, it sets a new standard for healing environments with a remarkable new 235,000 sf, five-story patient tower. Most of the patients and families arriving at Celebration’s Emergency Department are vacationers in the area. The new ED’s design reflects the “on-stage, off-stage” philosophy of the region’s theme parks with staff function corridors separate from public areas. Virtually unrecognizable as an ED, it more closely resembles a hotel with gracious, and spacious, interiors bathed in natural light. Courtyards, plazas and vine-covered pergolas unify the 174 bed campus and create welcoming public spaces.
