Chickasaw Elementary

Orange County Public Schools |  Comprehensive Renovation   |  Orlando, Florida

HuntonBrady was selected to modernize  51-year-old Chickasaw Elementary School, construct new buildings, renovate existing structures, and update its classroom technology. The new 41,600 square feet building includes space for administration, music, media center, food services and classrooms. Bright colors and a playful exterior facade create a new image the school. Colorful glazed brick walls enliven the front elevation and are interspersed in a field of modular brick that matches the campus’ previous construction. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling window walls and a clerestoried entry element bathe the school in natural light. A new vehicular parent drop-off and low irrigation landscaping were priorities. HuntonBrady strived to make renovations and additions at the school more energy efficient than preexisting structures, using regionally manufactured materials like concrete block walls, maximizing daylighting in classrooms, and specifying occupancy sensors to automatically shut off lights in classrooms.
