This 35,000 square foot student services, instructional, and conference center is a testament to the sustainable qualities of Florida vernacular architecture. Its reflective metal roof reduces heat island effect and large overhangs shade the structure, thereby reducing the heat load. Building orientation (positioned to reduce east-west exposure) high-performance glazing and improved insulation reduce heat load and energy usage. Enhanced commissioning supports HVAC design improvements. Efficient plumbing fixtures, native vegetation and water efficient landscaping help to reduce water usage.
