Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children Opens

Orlando– The Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children is the result of a unique partnership between the hospital, HuntonBrady and Disney Imagineers. The design team created a new three-story interactive hospital lobby and seven-story renovated pediatric tower that can only be described as…well, magical.

The 53,000 sf first floor includes a colorful outdoor canopy, reception area, public lobby and play space with dedicated elevators to the pediatric bed tower. The lobby features interactive activities that allow young visitors to generate jungle sounds on musical step pads and fish for virtual salmon. Elevators ascend to the pediatric “hospital within a hospital” on levels five, six, and seven.

These Disney movie themed floors are designed to look like the African savannah (Lion King), an undersea world (The Little Mermaid) , a rainforest jungle (The Jungle Book)  and mountains (Brother Bear). All rooms have views of nature which reinforce a healing environment.  Infection control is a priority with dedicated family visitor hand wash units in waiting rooms. A family lounge has wireless internet access and an LCD television connected to the hospital’s “Get Well Network.”
