College of Central Florida,
Center for Nursing
The design intent for the Center for Nursing is to fit the context of the surrounding campus. The architectural design is compatible with the architecture of current buildings, yet provides a transition to the next stage of “smart” buildings on the College of Central Florida Campus. Building materials promote recycling and reuse of non-toxic materials. Flexible interior spacing and flexible supporting infrastructure encourages continuing academic interconnections and program development as the student and faculty populations at College of Central Florida grow.
An open atrium connects the two levels visually and physically reflecting the interdisciplinary collaborative goal. Alternative seating throughout both floors provides staff and students with opportunities for organic meetings, space to study, and areas for respite.
The main focus of the Center for Nursing is the simulation center. Large simulation classrooms and individual suites allow students to experience various nursing scenarios through the use of high-tech mannikins. One-way class, specialized audio/visual systems, and designated debriefing rooms create a collaborative learning environment, enabling students to review their work and improve their skills.
