University of Central Florida
Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion

HuntonBrady’s involvement with the University of Central Florida (UCF) Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion started back in 2008 with a masterplan for the then-new Health Sciences Campus in Lake Nona, Florida. In 2012, we completed the first building on this new campus - the iconic UCF College of Medicine. Since then, HuntonBrady has remained heavily involved with UCF.

Fast forward to 2022 - The State of Florida faced a growing demand for healthcare professionals and the University required a new, larger facility to train the next generations of nurses. HuntonBrady Architects partnered with Ayers Saint Gross, a national firm specializing in nursing college design, to create a facility that would not only meet the space needs of the nursing program, but also serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration.

Located on the second and third floors of the Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion, the Nursing Simulation Center hosts a 12-bay health assessment lab and a 12-bay skills lab with hospital beds or exam tables at headwalls. Both labs include a central classroom area with movable furniture that can be reconfigured to allow for maximum flexibility. Multi-use classrooms accommodate emerging nursing education technology, including virtual reality equipment that helps simulate real-world scenarios.

The new building mixes both precast and glass curtainwall systems to create a distinctive architectural language. The east facade was designed with a dynamic curve, which provides views out onto the lawn. Wood-like accents at the soffits and entryways add warmth to the building, extending into the lobby spaces and seamlessly blending the boundary between the interiors and exteriors.
